Halloween Countdown: 17 Sleeps!

Eep! There are monsters under my bed.

Okay, it's more like one monster. A giant dust bunny, to be exact. But the thought of crawling across the floor to sweep it out of there is more terrifying than bumping into ghosts and vampires on Halloween night. Seriously.

I have to do it, though. My grandparents are coming for dinner tonight, and my mom says she wants the house spotless, starting with my room. I don't love cleaning, but I thought it might be more fun if I turned it into a bit of storytelling exercise—as part of my Halloween Countdown.

Which means I need to make friends with that dust bunny under the bed. I think I'll call him Frank (after my favourite fictional monster, Frankenstein), and I'll start by writing him a letter to introduce myself. I'll tell him about how I like to read, run, and write, and how my favourite time of the year is Halloween. (In case he hasn't heard me talking about all of those things in my sleep.)

When I finish my letter, I'll slide it under the bed. Maybe with a treat—like one of those leftover Oreo pops I made for my class Thursday... Er, okay, that might not be the best idea. But writing the letter is!

Do you have a monster under your bed? In your closet? Or maybe he's in your fridge, drinking all of that delicious Eggnog?! Why not try writing him or her a letter? What would you tell the monster about yourself?

Oh, I know there aren't any real monsters, but isn't it fun to use your imagination? For me, this is the perfect way to get my brain fired up for National Novel Writing Month, which starts the day after Halloween. Who knows, I might write an entire story about Frank, The Monster Under My Bed.

Gotta jet! Have a great day with your monsters, and I'll see you tomorrow!
