F is for Fields

I'm super excited to be testing my blogging stamina by taking part in the A-Z Blogging Challenge. Started by the awesome Arlee Bird, the challenge is to write a post every day of the month (except Sundays) based on the appropriate letter for the day. Sound confusing? Fields of canola, that is!

It’s no secret my grandparents are canola producers. I talk about them all the time. My Grandpa is one of my most favourite people in the whole world, and running around his canola field is the best practice for track and field I can get.

When the fields are in full bloom, they are the most spectacular shade of yellow you can imagine – something you have to see if you don’t live in Alberta. In fact, the bright fields in summer are one of the reasons I love living on the prairies so much.

Did you know that the first canola seeds in Canada were actually grown in Saskatchewan by a farmer by the name of Mr. Slovonuk? You can read all about this amazingly innovative man – and my adventures at his canola farm in the book, Fields of Home.
