There’s going to be an eclipse this Sunday! No, not the
movie.
An eclipse is when the moon passes between Earth and the
Sun, casting a shadow on the planet. But this weekend’s event is actually
called an annual solar eclipse because the moon won’t
completely cover the sun, but will leave a fiery ring around it instead.
How cool is that?
I’d say pretty awesome, because there’s even a football
stadium in the United States that’s putting on a free eclipse–watching event,
with protective glasses and everything. They expect about 20,000 people.
I’m going to watch it, too – but from Grandpa’s canola
field. It’s the May long weekend, which means farmers are hoping
to finish their seeding (if they haven’t done so, and as
long as the weather holds up), and I’ll be helping Grandpa with chores.
I can’t think of a more beautiful place to see the
eclipse. Without the city lights, the air is crisp, the sky dark. It’s perfect.
There sure are some benefits to living in the country.
Gotta jet! Have a great long weekend – and don’t forget
to watch for the eclipse!

PS – Do you live in Medicine Hat? The Medicine Hat
Speedway kicks off the season tonight and that Jet Engine Funny Car I’ve talked
about before is racing in a big Canada vs the US shootout. It’s going to be
loud, fast and fun! Plus, you can grab a copy of Gotta Jet and
even have it signed by the author and illustrator. Say Hi from me if you go.
